  • Rock relay races -  climbers divide into 2 teams.  Set up two identical routes.
  • Scavenger Hunt - climbers divide into 2 teams-  set 5 boulder problems for each marked with team specific color.  Leave clues at each leading to eventual prize (energy bars and first ave carabiners).
  • Lights Out -  Climbers divide into 2 teams.   Climber is blindfolded.  Team relays info to ascend wall.
  • Volcano Escape – Imagine you are trapped inside a volcano and your team must escape before the eruption!  Climbers divide into teams (or not).  Team gets 3 small mats (lava rocks) to move (see specific rules) to boulder pads (islands) that are set up leading to base of climbing wall.  Object of game is to get everyone out of volcano (top of wall) before the eruption.Versions of game-/use rope attached to girders to swing from island to island. /Build bridges between island with wood.
  • Spider Attack – create web frame from 2×4s and climbing rope.  Climbers pass team through the rope (without touching rope) to get to climbing wall.  Once a climber goes through one hole, they may not pass another member through the hole.
  • High Point - Whole group.  Two Jugs placed halfway up wall.  Team must figure out how to get 1st member to jugs then climber ascends wall.  Once climber ascends wall, he can descend down to jugs but no further to assist other members to jug. As climber ascend wall, they swap out role of assistance for remaining team members.  Once climber has assisted other climber to the top of wall, climber comes to ground and is only a spectator and can only give advice.

Other Games

  • Rock Warrior – First Ave Rocks version of G4Tv’s “Ultimate Warrior”- Start with a climbing rope swing from boulder pad to boulder pad.  crawl through tunnel.  Participant then climbs through to meet the next challenge, walking the plank to the “island” near the wall.  Done?  No- the participant must jump from lily pad (bouldering mats) to lily pad to gain bouldering wall for the real challenge- the Hoop Traverse.   Once finished it is now time to conquer the wall.
  • Musical Hoops – a big loop of hula-hoops is created so that it creates a circular path on the wall. When the music stops, those that are “caught” passing through a hoop is out. Climbers have to keep moving otherwise the tricky climber will just stay in one place not risking going through a hoop.
  • Rock Wall Basketball -  2 teams created (need 4 belayers) Hoop attached at top of wall.  Team on ground and two climbers on the wall.  Object of game is to “bounce” ball through hoop.  Only team on ground can hold the ball.  Team members on wall (hanging on rope alternative) have to hit ball (like volleyball up and through hoop.
